Iron fittings are the most durable and the dark wet earthen tones that can be achieved on iron are wonderful to touch. This makes Iron one of my favorite and ideal for fittings. The Sabi finish that I use on iron is chemically induced rust that is rubbed down daily for many weeks. The dense rust layer is then boiled in a tannic acid rich solution that darkens and stabilizes the rust. After an application of wax and more hand rubbing the iron underneath is sealed and ready for service.
